On May 30, 2012 a mentally ill man walked into Cafe Racer with a gun. A few minutes later three people were dead, another wounded and a neighborhood institution seemed changed forever. On the one year anniversary of the shooting I was asked to help create something that would attempt to reclaim the spirit of this amazing cafe.
With the help of all the men who worked at Cafe Racer including Len, who was the lone survivor of the shooting, and a few Regular customers we created this calendar. We offered it for sale at the cafe only, no online sales. We wanted to show people it was ok to come back to this place and that it’s eclectic culture was still thriving. Ordering only 300 copies and charging $10 we weren’t prepared for the demand. We sold out in four days.
Rest in Peace Drew and Joe.
